Pink Pleats
What's more romantic than some soft pink pleats for Valentine's Day? My boyfriend and I actually don't celebrate Valentine's day on February 14th 'cause we like to avoid the madness, but we "observe" it on Leap Day (or February 28th if it's not a Leap year!) instead as our own special little private Valentine's day. Plus that allows us to buy each other Valentine's stuff on sale!
Nevertheless, this time of year does get me in a more feminine mood. It's impossible not to be influenced by all the pink hearts and flowers and romantic commercials (which I have to admit, I am a sucker for!) How pretty is this statement necklace by SLATE? I think it's one of the prettiest necklaces I've ever had the pleasure of wearing! I received in my latest Rocksbox. If you're interested in trying out Rocksbox, which is a jewelry rental service like Netflix which I previously mentioned here, you can get your first month FREE by using code taniaxoxo.

Hope everyone had a great Valentine's day! Can't say that I did, as I've been battling the flu all week (blogging from bed as I type this...well I always blog from bed but that's another story), but I'll be celebrating later this month! Seems to me, it's a bit lame to celebrate your love on a specific day just because everyone else does. I mean, who wants to be like everyone else, right!? Celebrating your love should not be dictated by commercialism (I mean, did "St. Valentine" ever REALLY exist?), just so that florists/restaurants can charge you inflated prices! That's what I told my boyfriend anyway, when I invented our own official Valentine's Day...February 29! Of course, we can't have an annual holiday that only comes along once every four years, so on every other year we shall observe on the 28th.
On another note, my 50mm lens has been really bugging for a while now...I have the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D and in high contrast lighting situations, the chromatic aberration is abhorrent. For me, this usually occurs when the light outside is more whitish than yellow (such as on cloudy days) and my subject is outlined against the sky...I usually try to bring a different lens when I think it may be a problem but sometimes I forget. Time to upgrade to the G perhaps (I wonder, would that solve the problem? Must do some research) or learn how to fix this in post-processing...any tips anyone??

colorblock
I'm not a huge fan of colorblocking colors that contrast with each other too much, so when I found this pink/red sweater I decided to give the trend a try and kept all my other pieces in the same color family as well. I guess this time of the year has got me whipping out all my pinks and reds. What can I say? I've always been a romantic at heart...=)

the look of love
When I was a kid, February was my favorite month. Not only was it a month filled with hearts, candies, cute little cards from classmates, and my favorite color (at the time, pink), but it was also the month containing my all-important birthday, which I also associated with Valentine's because those were the decorations that were invariably available come that time of year. Since then, a lot has changed. Too many (pretty much all) Valentine's days were spent alone and single, too many birthdays were spent disappointed and depressed about growing older, and I discovered an absolute disdain for cold weather. But two things haven't changed: I still love pink and I'm still a sucker for the classic pink/red combo. It just brings back all these positive associations for me. This pretty/romantic look has got me so excited to spend this upcoming Valentine's Day with my very special favorite person in the whole wide world, even though he hates my wooly mammoth sweater. I don't care, I've been loving this thing to death, and I might even be rocking it again come Valentine's!
