Vista Hermosa

Vista Hermosa Park is one of mine and my boyfriend's favorite spots in LA, and it's still quite under-the-radar which is the best thing about it (although it's definitely gotten a lot more crowded compared to when we first discovered it). Situated on a hill, it's a true urban oasis with stunning views of Downtown LA's skyline. A must-visit if you're visiting Los Angeles. When we awoke to agreeable weather this past weekend, we knew we had to make the most of our day by indulging in one of our favorite pastimes--picnicking.

Dinette

Looking for a quick and easy brunch without an hour-long wait? If you're in LA, you must head to this humble little take-out window in Echo Park and try this seriously good waffle! I normally don't really enjoy salty/savory flavors mixed with my sweets (the waffle comes pre-syruped, which I might normally gripe about but I couldn't because it was too perfect). But the poached egg was absolute heaven spread into every bite of waffle. Yum. One of the best waffles I can ever recall eating. I can't wait to go back to try some more things from the menu.
Have a great weekend, everybody!! xx

Scallops and Stripes

A striped tee is one of the simplest things but the classic Parisian vibe is always so chic. They can easily feel a bit boring though, so I made sure to style it with some fun, light pieces: my cute little new pink crossbody from Zara and some scallop-hemmed denim shorts. And since we are officially heading into spring today, I wore some woven sandal booties! So great for festival season, too. I'm also really into this sweet lilacish-pink polish right now: Essie's French Affair.

Spring Forward

Striped two-piece set, Boohoo. Collin camera bag, Rebecca Minkoff. Straw floppy hat, Urban Outfitters.
With the extra hour of sunshine this past weekend, my boyfriend and I decided to hit the beach and headed out to Malibu Lagoon (which is right next to one of my favorite restaurants, Malibu Farm). Though it's not technically spring yet, it certainly feels like it here in Los Angeles. It's still a bit too chilly for laying out in a bikini, but the weather was perfect for flying our kite. The last time we tried to fly it, there wasn't enough wind which led to a lot of frustration. But this day was a breeze. Literally ;). I decided to go for a nautical vibe and wore a striped two-piece from Boohoo. I'm totally over rompers and how difficult they are to use the restroom in. If given a choice, always go with the two-piece!

Creme Fraiche
A color palette of creams and nudes is always one of my favorite looks. It's so easy, and no matter what the pieces, the result is so chic, right? I've been seeing more and more people wearing pastel tones in the winter time, and it's one of my favorite trends. Makes a lot of sense, because pastels look so nice against a snowy backdrop (although we don't get any of that nonsense here unfortunately). I really love how the yellow strap from my Rebecca Minkoff camera bag lends a bright touch of color.

The temperature's been dropping and though I tend to hate the cold, I'm actually pretty thrilled about it. After a non-existent winter last year and another overly-long summer, it's so refreshing to experience a bit of a chill. Although 50 degree days may seem warm to most of the country, I've been wearing scarves and ankle boots nearly every day, which in my mind justifies the purchase of some new ones. I loved the tones in this textured scarf from Sole Society and knew it would be the perfect bit of color to add to my outfits. I really love how it tied this otherwise neutral-colored look together. The overall effect is warm and earthy.
And I'm realizing that when it comes to black ankle boots, you really can't have enough too many. Is there any other shoe style that is so versatile? I mean, how much have I worn the pair in my last post? Those have got to be at least three years old. Maybe more. So when I found this pair I loved from Steve Madden, I was quick to bite the bullet. So happy, because they're quickly becoming my favorite!
I also recently started a subscription to Rocksbox, which is basically like a Netflix for jewelry. For $19 a month, a stylist personally puts together a little box of jewelry for you based on your preferences, and you can send the box back as soon as you're ready for a new set. It's a great way to experiment with pieces of jewelry without making a big commitment. If you like the pieces, you can purchase them at 20% off! I received this twisted Gorjana cuff in my first box, which I've been eyeing for a while. After trying it on, I'm a bit disappointed with how large it fits on my wrist, but I'm definitely excited to see what will come in my next box!
Anyway, I hope everyone has a happy, fun, safe, and beautiful new year! See you back here in 2015! ^_~
Spring in Swing
Bright, punchy colors are not my usual M.O., but I couldn't help being drawn to this poppy red print. The colors unabashedly shine like a playful celebration, so perfect for celebrating spring! To keep this effervescent floral from being too feminine, I paired it with some seriously distressed jeans from Blank NYC, a brand responsible for crafting many of my favorite jeans. I mean, look at the detail on those pockets!

the look of love
When I was a kid, February was my favorite month. Not only was it a month filled with hearts, candies, cute little cards from classmates, and my favorite color (at the time, pink), but it was also the month containing my all-important birthday, which I also associated with Valentine's because those were the decorations that were invariably available come that time of year. Since then, a lot has changed. Too many (pretty much all) Valentine's days were spent alone and single, too many birthdays were spent disappointed and depressed about growing older, and I discovered an absolute disdain for cold weather. But two things haven't changed: I still love pink and I'm still a sucker for the classic pink/red combo. It just brings back all these positive associations for me. This pretty/romantic look has got me so excited to spend this upcoming Valentine's Day with my very special favorite person in the whole wide world, even though he hates my wooly mammoth sweater. I don't care, I've been loving this thing to death, and I might even be rocking it again come Valentine's!
