cool for school
In college, my roommate would tease me about getting excited and planning my outfits for the first few days of school. Even though I'm not a student anymore, I definitely still wish I was, and I can't help but get excited when this time of year rolls around. There's something about a new pencil box filled with brand new supplies that just exhilarates me!
So here I am in a quintessential back to school outfit: plaid skirt (will be wearing this over and over this fall) and a denim jacket (around the waist because it's definitely still way too hot for that). And I actually remember going through so many pairs of plimsolls in my elementary school days, although they were not nearly as cool as these floral-printed Keds. The pretty necklace is my attempt at looking a bit more sophisticated-slash-my age, and this gorgeous piece was a steal I picked up from J.Crew Factory. They have such awesome jewelry there at reasonable prices! Do you still remember any of your back to school outfits?

black and white
Red shoes are always my answer to an outfit that needs some color, so I knew these red d'Orsay flats would be a great buy! I can never regret red shoes.

the one with that scarf
This beautiful plaid scarf from Zara has definitely made its rounds this season so I'm sure you're all familiar with it already. I don't remember which blogger I saw it on first but I fell in love with it upon first sight; however, had to endure a very long wait for the weather in LA to cool down to scarf-wearing levels. It's got a great heft to it, so it's been looking beautiful folded up on the couch like a mini throw. We're still not really at the right temperature for wearing such a heavy scarf, especially not during the day, but finally had a few drops of rain! Not much, but highs have to the 60s! How exciting :).

black slack
An outfit made of the very basics: black work pants, a plain white tank top, and a classic denim jacket. The last time I wore a pair of black slacks was several years ago, so I decided to purchase this pair I spotted on ASOS with a more updated silhouette and a cropped hem. I've always been pleased with the fit of their clothes and fit is everything when it comes to slacks! So I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

mad for plaid
Growing up in LA, I always thought overcoats were very elegant and glamorous, but never had any use for one. Recently recognizing the shortcoming in my coat game and despite so far experiencing the warmest winter of my life, I set out to right this wrong. For $45, I think this lovely coat from Sheinside has got to be my best purchase of the season. It's not super warm so it's not too impractical for me (but with the price, who even cares!), fits impeccably and looks good over literally everything! No exaggeration. Every time it cools down the slightest bit, I am fighting the urge to throw it on.
Denim campfire shirt, Madewell. Red tartan skirt, Missguided. Embellished sparkle tights, Pretty Polly. Suede ankle boots, Steve Madden (old). Houndstooth overcoat, Sheinside. Statement necklace, H&M. Darcy satchel, Rebecca Minkoff.
uniform
Nothing like a plaid skirt to bring me back to the days of school uniform-wearing at the private school I never attended. Actually I did have to spend my elementary school days wearing pleated skirts and skorts as a part of the school uniform, but they were of the solid-colored variety. But setting aside non-existent nostalgia, tartan has been such a big trend this season, and I knew a skirt was the perfect piece for me to try it out with. I paired this one from Sheinside with loafers, because I recall those being all the rage when I was in elementary school. Speaking of which, Sheinside has such a great collection of skirts that I've got my eye on right now! See below.

daisies in winter
This warm weather spell doesn't seem to be letting up and though it doesn't make the news much compared to other states' weather woes, this unseasonably balmy weather we've been having also means that California is experiencing its worst drought in decades. With temps in the 80s as far as the forecast can predict, I've even brought out my go-to summer cutoffs, the Minkpink slasher flicks. It'd be a great time to visit California, but I, for once, am actually craving some cold weather! I mean, I bought a new scarf this season and I'd really like to use it.

little black romper
While most of the country is sucked up by a "polar vortex," LA seems to be experiencing a bit of a winter heat wave with warmer than normal temps for a sustained period of time. Daytime temps are in the perfect 70s but it does cool down quickly after the sun falls, so it's always a good idea to bring along an extra layer or two. It's not much of a winter but I'll take it over the polar vortex!
