My Four Must-Haves For Fall
So it's a little late in the season now, considering that winter is right around the corner, but I've realized that there are a few basic wardrobe pieces that I've been reaching for repeatedly lately and decided to do a post on them. I'm wearing them all here and the combo of these four has more or less been my failproof fall outfit formula. They are:
1) THE DRAMATIC BLOUSE: Ruffled details are everywhere this season and I happen to love a bit of ruffle action! However, if ruffles are a bit too frilly for your tastes, blouses with neck-tie details or some bell sleeves are really great choices as well. Basically, I think it's a great time to be a blouse-wearing woman because there are so many pretty options out there. Totally addicted with this green one from H&M (sold out already but there are still some sizes left in off-white) currently. It's such a gorgeous, feminine piece; perfect for the holiday season, and this dark forest green shade is my current OBSESSION.
2) VINTAGE-CUT JEANS (preferably black): No secret that I've been all about the mom jeans lately, and in the fall and winter I always reaching for black-colored bottoms. Different shades of blue denim go in and out of vogue but black never fails! And it just looks more polished. I already wrote about how much I love my black Levi's Wedgie Icon jeans in this post.
3) SUEDE JACKETS: I think I prefer the look of suede to leather because it's much softer and less "tough" looking. Real suede also tends to be more affordable than real leather as well, so it's less of an investment. The only downside is having to beware of rain! I scored this one on sale from Mango a few months ago, felt a little iffy about it at first, but now that I've gotten into the habit of wearing it, I absolutely love it! The color makes it such a great fall piece.
4) MULES: The Gucci Princetown loafers have been a huge hit this season, with tons of similar "inspired-by" styles available! I, however, don't really gravitate towards such masculine pieces, but these bow flats from Zara really appealed to me. I find myself slipping my feet into them literally all the time, it's just way too easy. I was wearing slides all summer long, but with the seasons changing some close-toed action is necessary so these mules were perfect. I have major heart eyes for Prada's pretty version as well but decided to save rather than splurge.
What are the pieces you've been continuously reaching for this fall?
The Flatform Espadrille
I have to admit, I may have gone a little overboard with the espadrilles this summer. I have two other pairs that I recently purchased, which I have yet to debut on the blog. But, they are such amazingly comfortable shoes, and they do come back into vogue summer after summer. Although, this year they were more popular than ever before, so I wonder if next year they will feel played out...probably not though! Honestly trends linger for so long these days and come back season after season. And, it's always summer in Los Angeles anyway! In other words, NO RAGRETS. I could honestly write a poem about these shoes. They are a godsend for petite girls, adding inches of height without the pain or struggle of wearing heels! The only thing is, it can be really easy to roll your ankles and trip if you're not being careful (or is that just me??) They also feel a bit strange to drive in. But, nothing that can't be mastered with a little practice.
Mango is having a huge summer sale right now with all of their spring/summer stuff 50% off or more! I know everyone is talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale right now* but I think Mango's summer sale is seriously one of the best. There was so much good stuff but I narrowed my choices down to stuff I was sure I would still want to wear into fall. Couldn't resist this floral dress and this leather bucket bag! Loving the romantic bohemian vibe. And just imagine with a wool fedora and ankle boots for fall.
*I haven't made any purchases yet, have you guys? The things I had my eye on sold out before the sale opened up to the public today, but I'll probably try to pick up some Zella workout leggings at least because those are my fave.
Floral print dress, Mango. Leather bucket bag, Mango. Leather choker, c/o Urban Outfitters. Flatform espadrilles, Pull & Bear (sold out, similar options below).

Dressed in Denim
A denim dress seems to be one of those classic summer pieces that you can never go wrong with. However, a solid blue dress can be a bit boring, especially since this one looks like a simple shift from the front (cut-outs from the side however). Everyone's been tying little silk scarves or bandanas around their necks this spring, so I dug out one of my old thrifted silk scarves and thought I'd give the trend a try to add a pop of color to my outfit. When I tied it around my neck though, I looked way too much like a flight attendant (maybe I just need to find the right scarf), so I ended up tying it on my bag instead. Still works to add some color!
To any of you who have successfully tried the scarf neck tie trend, got any tips on making it work?
Denim body-con dress, c/o Tobi. Knotted slides, Mango. Mini mini bucket bag in Brandy, Mansur Gavriel. Silk scarf, vintage. Tan fedora, Shop Prima Donna.
Bundled Up
Bouclé cardigan, Zara. Double-sided plaid blanket scarf, Zara (old, similar here). Striped tee, Gap. Olive-green pleated trousers, Queenshop. Fringed leather crossbody, Mango. Lace-up ankle boots, Urban Outfitters (old).
I'm absolutely loving the chilly winter we're having, since California's last two winters were pretty much non-existent. It's almost a bit of a sartorial challenge for me to get dressed for cooler temperatures and so far it's been awesome. I'm dusting off a lot of clothes that I haven't worn in ages as well as taking the weather change (and the proliferation of post-holiday sales) as an opportunity to refresh my wardrobe with a few new items, which I'll hopefully be sharing soon in some future posts. Right now my favorite recent purchase is this fringed saddle bag I got from Mango during Christmas sales, so don't be surprised if you see it popping up here a lot!
Shop the post:

Mellow Yellow
Yellow top with frilled hem, Zara (sold out). Slasher flick denim cut-offs, MinkPink. East African Sisal bag, Urban Renewal. Isla strap cord sandals, Mango. Necklace, Mango (on sale now!) Lace racerback bralette, Aerie (I love all their bralettes!)
Yellow's long been my favorite color but more for the mood it invokes and signifies than how it actually looks. This saffron/marigold shade though, I can't help but be immediately drawn to. It was instant love from the moment I spied it on the Zara website. Perfect color to celebrate summer as it draws to a close. No such luck here in LA though...I have a feeling the worst of the heat is yet to come.
paper bags
A crop top paired with some high-waisted shorts is my idea of the quintessential summer outfit. This perfectly plain crop top from Mango pairs well with just about everything, especially these tan paper-bag shorts from Motel Rocks. In keeping with the paper bag theme, I also wore the paper bag purse that I scored recently from the Zara sale. It was a piece I often passed over when I saw it worn as a clutch, but I love it worn as a crossbody!
Black crop top, Mango. Tan junipa shorts, Motel Rocks. Paper bag purse, Zara. Leopard sandals, Tobi. Watch, Akribos XVI. Necklace, Gorjana.
