The Wear-Anywhere Dress
I justified the purchase of this dress by telling myself it had true versatility as well as timelessness. It's something I would probably pack for traveling since it would look great with both sneakers or heels and work for a variety of different events and occasions. Reformation does these classic yet fresh dresses very well. I fell hard for the A-line silhouette, the skirt with just the right amount of flounce, and the cheeky yet subtle cutouts at the shoulders.
Speaking of things I've fallen hard for, if you caught my recent posts or follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I have been all about my Céline mini belt bag recently! After initially feeling a bit guilty about the purchase (it being the most expensive bag I have ever purchased for myself, I couldn't help but think about how the money is probably more than three months worth of food!) However, I find myself reaching for it constantly; it seems to complement almost all of my outfits, and unlike some of my other purses, the size actually suits my needs! I also don't have to baby it since the drummed calfskin is not so delicate. I'm not the greatest at taking care of my things, so I absolutely hate it when expensive leathers get scratched easily. All in all, I'm already thinking this bag is becoming quite affordable in terms of cost per wear.

Heatwave Wear
Even though we're into well October now, LA is still experiencing the occasional heatwave. I talk about this often, but global warming is very real, despite what certain politicians may say (Donald Trump may or may not believe that it's a hoax invented by the Chinese). Hot days are the worst time to be a style blogger, because I'd much rather be sitting comfortably in an air-conditioned room than taking pictures outside in the sweltering heat (and I'm sure my beau-tographer really dreads it too although he's too supportive to ever say anything!) I'd love to be shooting fall outfits featuring boots and layers right now but unfortunately it's not always very realistic. When temperatures hit a certain threshold, I really don't want to put much thought into my outfit, hence the simple t-shirt and denim skirt combo for today's look. It was too hot to even deal with my hair and I went extra comfy with my choice of footwear, with my trusty Nike Air Max Thea. I do own quite a few pairs of Nikes but these are my most comfortable and therefore favorite. Comfy feet are happy feet and athleisure is still pretty cool in my book.

Be There With Bells On
Though this look is decidedly summery, two trends that will definitely still be going strong into fall are bell sleeves and crop kick jeans. I'm not super fond of bell sleeves personally (this top was just too pretty to pass up on, and on sale!), since I'm always worried about accidentally dipping them into food or whatever (I'm messy!), but the crop kick is definitely a trend I can get behind. The silhouette is just super fresh right now--a cropped leg with just a slight flare at the hems. Surprisingly, I found this pair at the Gap. Not that it's surprising that the retailer best known for basics has such an extensive denim selection, but I was surprised that they're carrying some of the more fashion-forward styles and trendier cuts ahead of many other retailers! Awesome possum, Gap.

Best Friends Wear Matching Backpacks
Meet my best friend. She is two going on three. She is definitely a fashionista but we have very different styles. She is all about pink and purple and can rarely be found in any other color. The more ruffles, tulle, and "shiny", the better. She is also a sucker for anything Elsa, Minnie, or Hello Kitty. She usually likes to be the one giving me fashion advice, but for this shoot, we agreed to compromise. We went with her favorite colors, but I got to pick out what we wore. She loves it when we wear our Fjallraven Kankens together, because they are our best friend backpacks. She wishes hers were purple though, because Dora (the explorer) has a purple backpack. Some days she calls me Belle and tells me to call her Punzel. Other days she tells me to call her "My Little Pony." We put snacks in our backpacks and always have fun adventures together. One time, she gave me a fortune cookie, which was super special because sharing isn't one of her strong suits. Every day with her is the best day.

The Culotte Jean
I can't remember a more exciting time in denim than now. I mean, the early aughts when designer denim first became a thing might qualify (we all remember how important those fancy back pockets were right?) Or 2012-2013 when we had jeans in every color of the rainbow (I definitely fell victim to a few too many pairs of those). But I am, at heart, a denim purist, I think. So a pair of true blues with no flashy logos is always infallible. Currently we've got so many different silhouettes to play with that it really feels like you can't go wrong no matter what you pick: culottes, kick flares, high-waists, step hems, mom jeans, straight legs, boyfriend jeans, girlfriend jeans, fringed hems, and everything in between. Even though I still love a great pair of skinnies, they're starting to feel a bit stale with all of the fresher cuts on the scene.
With this in mind, I decided to try out my first pair of culotte jeans. Still kind on on the fence about them...despite being a petite-sized pair, I feel like I need to be taller to pull these off perhaps. Or maybe a fancier pair of shoes would do the trick. What do you gals think?

Off the Shoulder
A lightweight silk tank should be considered a summer staple. This one is the first I've ever owned and I'm a fan. Bonus points for the off-the-shoulder detail which is kind one of the biggest trends this summer.
I've written about the Farleigh slim mom jeans from ASOS before; I liked them so much that I bought another pair. These are the most perfect summery light-wash. Even though I got them in the same size as my other pair, they fit a bit looser for some reason, which I kind of like. I had also purchased a pair in black (which I ended up returning) but they were way too tight on me. So if you're looking to pick up a pai rof these, just a word of advice that the sizing is a bit inconsistent. Good thing ASOS has super easy and free returns!

Bag Charms: Accessories for Your Accessory
Have you noticed that bag charms are all the rage lately? I picked these up from Nordstrom a while back and I've been wearing them possibly a little too much! It might seem a little weird to some to accessorize your accessory, but personalization and making something "your own" are what it's all about right now. Whether it's a stitched monogram or some pins and patches or a cute little keychain on your purse, seems like designers and retailers are banking on customers wanting to add a special little extra touch to their wardrobe pieces. Maybe this is the backlash response to the popularity of "normcore" style a few seasons ago? Whatever it is, I can get on board with adding a cute little pom pom poof to my bag, especially for a fun pop of color. It's no secret I love pom poms and tassels anyway (speaking of which, that's why I couldn't resist these platform espadrilles from Soludos!)
If you're feeling the bag charm trend too, I've linked a ton of cute options below, including some super cute ones that go beyond your basic puff! I'm now considering another purchase, in fact. I totally need this one for Pokemon Go hunting!

The Flatform Espadrille
I have to admit, I may have gone a little overboard with the espadrilles this summer. I have two other pairs that I recently purchased, which I have yet to debut on the blog. But, they are such amazingly comfortable shoes, and they do come back into vogue summer after summer. Although, this year they were more popular than ever before, so I wonder if next year they will feel played out...probably not though! Honestly trends linger for so long these days and come back season after season. And, it's always summer in Los Angeles anyway! In other words, NO RAGRETS. I could honestly write a poem about these shoes. They are a godsend for petite girls, adding inches of height without the pain or struggle of wearing heels! The only thing is, it can be really easy to roll your ankles and trip if you're not being careful (or is that just me??) They also feel a bit strange to drive in. But, nothing that can't be mastered with a little practice.
Mango is having a huge summer sale right now with all of their spring/summer stuff 50% off or more! I know everyone is talking about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale right now* but I think Mango's summer sale is seriously one of the best. There was so much good stuff but I narrowed my choices down to stuff I was sure I would still want to wear into fall. Couldn't resist this floral dress and this leather bucket bag! Loving the romantic bohemian vibe. And just imagine with a wool fedora and ankle boots for fall.
*I haven't made any purchases yet, have you guys? The things I had my eye on sold out before the sale opened up to the public today, but I'll probably try to pick up some Zella workout leggings at least because those are my fave.
