Long Cardigans Forever
Being in LA, there is rarely, if ever, a need for a coat, but a cozy longline cardigan often suits our winters perfectly. Since I wear the ones that I have so much, I'm always on the lookout to buy more! This one was a Black Friday steal I found at ASOS, and I love how it's a bit more lightweight so I can wear it even when it's not really chilly. A pair of mom jeans, a nice top, and a long cardigan are pretty much my uniform whenever the weather drops below 65 degrees (which unfortunately is not as frequently as I would like).
Speaking of nice tops, one of my favorite recent brand discoveries is Sézane. I'm trying to reduce the money I waste on trendy pieces that I'm over by next season, so when I want to buy something, I try to ask myself if I can see myself still wearing that piece in a few years. With Sézane the answer is always yes! They do a really good job of encapsulating that laidback yet sophisticated French vibe.

The Non-Functional Scarf Accessory
Like many style bloggers, I'm a huge fan of scarves because they can be such a powerful, outfit-making accessory. Unfortunately, scarf season is nearly non-existent in LA--seriously, blink and you'll miss it! So today I am introducing the non-functional scarf accessory. This skinny lace scarf is simply too dinky to provide any warmth; it's purpose is purely decorational. Neck-tie details have been trending the past few seasons, especially when paired with blouses. I see myself wearing this simple one (i.e. instant classic) I got from Forever 21 a lot as it makes a perfect blank canvas to build upon.
As for the moto jacket, I'm sure you've seen it before. I first noticed it at Nordstrom last spring but they had trouble keeping it in stock before I could bite the bullet. It's a real suede jacket for less than $200! Now it's back for fall in plenty of colors and I've noticed a lot of other retailers are carrying it too. I ended up getting mine at Bloomingdale's recently when they were having their "private sale" and I'm quite happy with the fit and feel of it. It's seriously a fall must-have, and I'm still considering picking up another color! I'm wearing an XS and it fits perfectly.

Off the Shoulder
A lightweight silk tank should be considered a summer staple. This one is the first I've ever owned and I'm a fan. Bonus points for the off-the-shoulder detail which is kind one of the biggest trends this summer.
I've written about the Farleigh slim mom jeans from ASOS before; I liked them so much that I bought another pair. These are the most perfect summery light-wash. Even though I got them in the same size as my other pair, they fit a bit looser for some reason, which I kind of like. I had also purchased a pair in black (which I ended up returning) but they were way too tight on me. So if you're looking to pick up a pai rof these, just a word of advice that the sizing is a bit inconsistent. Good thing ASOS has super easy and free returns!

The Modern Mom Jean
Is the skinny jean finally going out of style? It's something we've been hearing for years now, and yet they still remain the predominant silhouette on the jean scene. Personally, I think that skinny jeans are super flattering and will continue to be a favorite. However, I'm definitely appreciating the rise in popularity of other denim shapes that we are currently seeing, as I'm always in favor of a bit variety to keep things fresh. We have the resurgence of the flare, as well as the new culotte jean, the cropped flare, and my new favorite silhouette, the vintage-cut "mom jean." It's a little bit like the boyfriend jean that we've been well-acquainted with these past few years, but with a high-waist and a more tapered leg.
I've been on the hunt for the perfect pair for a while now; some of them can be on the baggyish side so I was afraid they wouldn't flatter. I really liked the look of Levi's Wedgie Icon, but for my first pair I decided to go with a more slim-cut pair as a transition between the skinny jean and a truer mom jean. I've seen a lot of style bloggers killing it in the Asos Farleigh slim mom jeans, and since Asos has such an easy return policy, I ordered two pairs. I'm happy to report, they were a winner! I took my normal size and consider my first experiment with mom jeans a success. Definitely looking forward to wearing more of this denim silhouette in the future. Have you tried wearing mom jeans yet? How do you feel about the trend?

Spring Essential: the Lace-Up Flat
Something I've been reaching for a lot lately are my lace-up flats (you may have noticed me wearing my nude ones here and here and these ones previously here). For obvious reasons, they are a great spring transition shoe (and also great for when you haven't had a pedicure in a while). The lace-up style in particular has been popular for a few seasons now, but I don't anticipate the trend going anywhere soon. That's because these babies can instantly add a pretty little wink to the simplest of outfits (i.e. jeans and a tee), which is probably why they've been such a heavy-hitter in my wardrobe lately. Also, compared to gladiator sandals, they are only very minimally annoying to get on. I got this pair from Asos, but there are only limited sizes left, so I've posted some other cute pairs below that have a similar vibe. Zara has some cute ones right now, and the gorgeous Italian leather pair from M.Gemi have been restocked.
Anyway, this is probably the last time you'll see me in a scarf for a while! That makes me kinda sad.

Sometimes I feel like the more my boyfriend hates something that I wear, the more I love it. One definite example is this fringed geo-pattern sweater I just got (on sale!) from Forever 21. The long fringes of yarn hanging off of it could seem hideously random to some, but I think they have a lot of charm and character. Plus, the deep jewel tones are so pretty and complement my current favorite scarf from Aritzia just perfectly. And of course, I always loved the original Marant sweater from which this one clearly draws "heavy inspiration."

White Before Labor Day

It's finally cool enough for me to pull on a pair of jeans, of the pant variety. It's my last chance to get some wear out of this white, destroyed, boyfriend-style pair from Abercrombie & Fitch before Labor Day--not that it being past Labor Day will stop me from wearing them again. Anyway, I haven't shopped at Abercrombie in many years, not since I used to work for the company in my first and only retail job, but I was recently intrigued by some of their fall campaign images. Seems like they are finally making an effort to evolve rather than continue to more or less offer the same products season after season in slightly different colors (they even make stuff in BLACK now) so I decided to check out their website. They still have a lot of the same styles that they are known for but a good amount of unexpected stuff too--and the prices are much more affordable than they used to be. I couldn't resist picking up a few things, including these boyfriend jeans. Their site is definitely worth a perusal if you haven't checked them out in a while!
The Striped Tee Dress

It doesn't get much easier than a simple t-shirt dress, bonus points for this one because it's striped. It's definitely ideal summer/vacation attire, which I can attest to since we've been experiencing a bit of humidity along with the heat in Los Angeles lately. I always tie something around my waist to avoid looking block-y (although looking block-y is not always a bad thing), and a little bit of thoughtful accessorizing goes a long way. I was super excited to wear my new lace-up flats from ASOS! Shoes that lace-up are one of my favorite trends this season, even though they can be a pain to put on and take off. They really do an amazing job of dressing up simple outfits, so it's worth it!
