Mini-dresses in Winter

I had this dress in my closet for a while but never really found the occasion to wear it. Despite being a floral print, the color and cut (it has these long floofy long sleeves) are a strange note to hit during the summertime. It looks much better complimented by the deeper and richer shades of fall/winter. Luckily, wearing mini-dresses during the winter in LA is totally feasible much of the time. It just gets a bit chilly at night.

You've already seen me wear this Zara jacket and these Banana Republic boots plenty of times. They are definitely two of my wardrobe's MVPs this season. Sometimes I feel like I have to consciously force myself to wear other things. As for my Chloé Faye, I had doubts at first on whether I had made the right color choice. Since it's such a popular bag, I decided to go for a seasonal color that would be a little more unique. However, while this shade "Intense Green" was definitely more distinctive than a basic black, I worried that I wouldn't get much use out of it, compared to a neutral color that could be worn year-round. Luckily, it has turned out to complement many of my outfits super well, adding a subtle yet interesting touch of color.

Autumnal Tones

When I was a kid, I remember it being pretty chilly by the time Halloween rolled around. My mom always made me wear a long-sleeved shirt and tights under my Halloween costumes while I went trick-or-treating, much to my dismay! The past few years however, have been a different story. Whenever I've taken my nephews and niece trick-or-treating, I distinctly recall being bare-legged and yet still working up a sweat. If that's not evidence of climate change, I don't know what is. Currently, LA is experiencing yet another heat wave. They are simply a way of life here, so as a style blogger I have to figure out other ways to give a nod to "fall." Dressing in various warm brown tones is a surefire way to get the job done. Almost everything here is from Free People.

Off the Shoulder

A lightweight silk tank should be considered a summer staple. This one is the first I've ever owned and I'm a fan. Bonus points for the off-the-shoulder detail which is kind one of the biggest trends this summer.

I've written about the Farleigh slim mom jeans from ASOS before; I liked them so much that I bought another pair. These are the most perfect summery light-wash. Even though I got them in the same size as my other pair, they fit a bit looser for some reason, which I kind of like. I had also purchased a pair in black (which I ended up returning) but they were way too tight on me. So if you're looking to pick up a pai rof these, just a word of advice that the sizing is a bit inconsistent. Good thing ASOS has super easy and free returns!

El Niño's been making a very sad showing in LA lately, and it almost seems like it might be over before it's really even begun. In fact, the chill seems largely to have left the air, and besides a couple of back-to-back storms a couple of weeks ago we haven't had more than some slight drizzle. This past weekend, we were back to our regularly scheduled programming of bare legs in January. Not that I'm really complaining...it did give me a chance to wear this lovely dress from Free People. But we need a lot more rain if this drought is ever going to end!

taking stock

Being a planner (and a hoarder), when I find something I really like, it's hard for me to squelch the urge to stock up. For instance, I loved the pink version of this dress by Lucca Couture (worn here) so much that I had to snap it up in blue too. The fit and fabric are great and it'll be the easiest outfit to throw on ever once the weather starts to really warm up here. And, since I get so much wear out of my Chloé-wannabe boots from Choies (worn here, here, and here...I'm sure you're all very tired of seeing them by now), I figured purchasing another pair of gold-studded black ankle boots would definitely be a reasonable and sensible investment. I mean, I'm nothing if not pragmatic, ya know? Always gotta have a contingency plan.
